Implementation of person-centred care: Barriers and facilitators.

Workshop

The implementation of the Gothenburg Person-Centred Care framework (The GPCC framework) has been explored since 2013, in a collaboration between The University of Exeter and the University of Gothenburg research centres GPCC and the LET studio have.

The aim of this seminar is to present the findings of a two year study of 7 GPCC projects, and initiate a discussion with GPCC researchers and collaborators. We will briefly present the results of our 3 published papers and our 3 as yet unpublished papers, to provide an overview of the project as a whole. We hope to stimulate a lively discussion with the GPCC community about the transferability of our findings and their implications. The issues raised by our research include the role of the person¿s goals, barriers and facilitators to PCC, shared decision making, the documentation of narratives, and the translation of the central GPCC model into different healthcare and community settings. We will use case examples from everyday encounters in order to deepen our understanding of central elements of the GPCC framework: narrative, partnership and documentation.

Our seminar is based on the PCC synthesis study, a collaborative effort between researchers from the University of Exeter and the University of Gothenburg. The PCC synthesis study has interviewed over fifty-five patients, healthcare professionals and researchers who have all worked with the Gothenburg Person-Centred Care framework.

The seminar is open for everyone interested in co-creating more knowledge within the field of PCC and shared decision making, and we especially welcome patients, relatives and practicing healthcare professionals. The seminar will be held in English under the leadership of Professor Nicky Britten, Exeter University.

The research team has published 3 out of 6 articles in high impact journals, of which 2 are open access. The group is planning to publish a further 3 articles exploring patients' perspectives in 2017.
