Great interest in person-centred care when Switzerland's largest health education center visited

Bern's health education center (Berner Bildungszentrum Pflege) is Switzerland's largest university for health education. They want to update their health education programs to meet future trends and changes in health care. Twelve persons from their board and the management group took part in the visit. They chose to visit Sweden because Swedish health care has undergone several of the restructions and trends that are on the way to Switzerland, such as digitization, quality assurance, increased transparency and increasing outpatient care.

Swedish care organizations are counted as trailblazers in the field of reforming healthcare education. Bern's health education center wanted to visit leading clinics and training centers and get to know the "Best Practice" examples. The study trip focused on quality assurance and patient safety, how digitization and outpatient care have affected business models, the supply of skills and changes in the requirements for nurses' tasks and competencies. The visit was highly appreciated by the participants who were particularly interested in person-centred care as a starting point for both health care and education.

Catarina Wallengren and Carina Sparud Lundin at the Institute for Health and Care Sciences at the Sahlgrenska Academy, and both GPCC researchers, hosted the visit. They conducted a lecture on the theme of person-centered care - evidence, assumptions and room for improvement - health care education and nursing.
